Walk on the roof of the mountain

One of the most distinguished features of Bulgaria is its nature, which is why today we are going to an interesting and not so famous ecopath with the beautiful name “Up to the sun”.

start of еcopath “Nagore kum slunceto”

The eco-trail “Up to the Sun” is located in the Teteven Balkan and this fact alone is enough to make you visit it, but the trail hides many more beauties and surprises. The start of the eco-trail is right on the last sharp turn before the village of Babintsi. At the turn, there is an information board, as well as several parking spaces for cars.

The length of the ecopath “Up to the Sun” is approximately 3 km and its transition is about 2 hours at a normal pace. The lowest point of the trail is 989 meters above sea level, and the highest 1222 meters, where the end point of the trail is, peak Cherven. There is a well-maintained blue and white marking at all times.

The beginning of the trail starts through a rugged rocky area, which gradually turns into a forest, during the transition in this part you will find a nice panoramic balcony, from which you can see the surroundings and the village of Babintsi.

Continuing forward you will come to one of the most distinctive features of this trail, a vast mountain saddle, which is a beautiful and green meadow, “perched” between two forests. Here you will find two gazebos where you can take a break. They also offer panoramic views of the neighboring peaks Ostrich 1069 m and Treskavets 1151 m.

Continuing along the path you will reach the next forest, which will take you to a beautiful meadow with an even more exciting view of the gazebo, which is located on it.

In addition, after walking a little further, you will discover the real magic of the ecopath “Up to the Sun”, namely endless and impressive meadows covered with ferns, which in my case looked like a big tile roof because of the sun that had scorched them.

Here come the impressive rock crowns that open up the amazing views around but this is just the beginning of these views. Walking along the path you will see the outstandingly beautiful plummets and wild landscapes to the Teteven Balkan. Not long, after you reach the end of the trail – Cherven peak and let’s call it the icing on the cake of this whole experience – the panoramic site, which opens a very detailed panorama to the valley of the Beli Vit river, Teteven and the whole ridge of Central Stara Planina.

The ecopath “Up to the Sun” is not just another trail that passes through groves and ponds, it is a trail that will open your eyes to every direction you look. On this occasion, I will end with the exact same words that I started this publication – One of the most distinguished features of Bulgaria is its nature and ecopath “Up to the Sun” is a living proof.

еcopath “Nagore kum slunceto”

Useful information:
The distance between Sofia and the starting point of the ecopath “Up to the Sun” is 117 km;
At the beginning of the trail, there is a parking space for 3-4 cars;
The trail is suitable for all age groups;
It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes;
There are no fountains along the path, so fill up with liquids;
At the end of the trail it is possible to be really windy, so dress/equip appropriately;
